Trip Planner: South Pacific / Australia / Northern Territory / Top End / Darwin / Indo Pacific Marine
A privately funded venture to showcase the diversity of the coral reefs, Indo Pacific Marine opened its doors in 1971. The exhibits highlight the biodiversity of Darwin's waters and draw attention to the reef's important function in the biosphere. You'll see tanks inhabited by a colorful array of sea creatures, exhibits on pearling, and perhaps even a chance to see a barramundi feeding. A documentary video and a guided tour will leave well informed about the life of the reef. With our online itinerary creator, Darwin attractions like Indo Pacific Marine can be center stage of your vacation plans, and you can find out about other attractions like it, unlike it, near it, and miles away.
Indo Pacific Marine Reviews
Very close to the Waterfornt bars and wave lagoon. Stumbled upon it by accident and was so pleased we did. Unike lots of places where you look round on your own the owner gave a personal tour... more »
Amazing passion by Jon. Visited after being recommended by the guide at the WWII Oil tunnels. It was interesting to receive a lot of insight into the local marine life and ecosystems. more »
I went there in October, please take note of the early closing times during wet season. The owner was extremely knowledgeable about marine life and made the hour-long tour very interesting to listen to. He also passed around some marine sponges and shells for us to see. However, I have to take away a star as the tanks are not clean making it difficult to see through. The area was also extremely hot and everyone was perspiring in the room.
We love this place. John and his wife created something amazing and unique. If you are interested in marine life or seawater tanks, this is the place to go. John is happy to share all his knowledge with you. Yes, other aquariums will show you more for the money you pay, but John and his wife build all of this alone, it’s private and their effort is worth supporting!
