Take a self-guided tour of World War II Oil Storage Tunnels for a glimpse of Darwin's wartime history. The information boards and historic photographs displayed on the walls tell the story of the Japanese bombing of Darwin and construction of these huge tunnels, which were reopened on the 50th anniversary of the bombing. Learn why the tunnels were never used for their intended purpose--storing the oil--and instead served as a training area for the fire brigade throughout the 1970s and 1980s. Our Darwin trip itinerary builder website makes visiting World War II Oil Storage Tunnels and other Darwin attractions simple, and helps you make a travel plan personal to you.

  • Worth a visit for an overview of the military history of Darwin. Very knowledgeable lady on the door, and we were given a discount voucher for an aquarium. Allow an hour or so if you like reading - lots of info.
  • Very interesting place to visit if you like war history/the history of Darwin. While the entry is just a little hole in the hill once you've moved through the initial tunnel and past the statue made out of aircraft parts you'll find yourself in a very large oil storage tunnel filled with different factoids about what went on here.
