The Tasmanian Arboretum Reviews
It's a few km from the CBD and we'll worth a visit. We saw about 5 platypus at one time in the lake and it was still early afternoon. Beautiful place. Quite a lot of birds including chicks. Lots of..... more »

My wife and I living in Devonport Tasmania are members of the Arboretum. It's an honour to be a member of this beautiful living tree museum. Amazing care by multiple volunteers in the daily running of the Arboretum. Platypus a guarantee regardless dusk and dawn. If you haven't seen a platypus in the wild this is the place to be. Abundant bird life and if you are lucky echidnas too. Fantastic photo opportunities all year around. Kiosk and multiple picnic facilities. Amenities wheelchair friendly. A must see when you are in the Northwest of Tasmania.
My husband and I are returning from a month of travel in Tasmania. We were fortunate that another visitor mentioned the Tasmanian Arboretum as it was not listed in any of the travel guides I read. It is a lovely tree filled arboretum with a centrally located pond which is inhabited with platypus. A blind on the bank allows one to observe these very unusual creatures which we were able to do. Plus there is a small cafe on site where tea and scones can be enjoyed on a rainy day if desired. We were well tended to by the caretaker who also staffs the cafe. This is an undiscovered gem and well worth a visit.
