#192 of 640 in Things to do in Montreal
The Jacques Cartier Bridge is a steel truss cantilever bridge crossing the Saint Lawrence River from Montreal Island, Montreal, Quebec to the south shore at Longueuil, Quebec, Canada. The bridge crosses Île Sainte-Hélène in the centre of the river, where offramps allow access to the Parc Jean-Drapeau and La Ronde amusement park.
Originally named the Montreal Harbour Bridge, it was renamed in 1934 to commemorate the 400th anniversary of Jacques Cartier's first voyage up the St. Lawrence River.
The five-lane highway bridge is 3,425.6m in length, including the approach viaducts. There are approximately 35.8 million vehicle crossings annually, making it the third busiest bridge in Canada, the first being Champlain Bridge, just a few kilometres upstream. The second busiest bridge in Canada overall is the Port Mann Bridge in Metro Vancouver .

  • Lot of bridges here in Montreal, beautiful and not the easiest to maneuver but worth the effort. Enjoyed  more »
  • Spectacular light show at night. My wife and I passed by whilst touring East Canada and enjoyed the sights provided.  more »

  • On our last night in Montreal, we were able to enjoy the opening night of the 2019 International Fireworks Competition. We opted to view the spectacle from atop the Jacques Cartier Bridge. While there were a great deal of people, the bridge is huge and easily accommodated everyone with ease. There are also lights that illuminate the bridge itself and this was nice to watch before and after the fireworks show. Enjoy the photos (all rights reserved).
  • The path blockers are terribly placed, it's easy to see that SO many bike handlebars have hit them. Rode over the bridge on a bike and couldn't believe how unsafe those spots are where you have to go around in a narrow turn with cross traffic. Non car riders deserve better!!! Please fix this human-made problem. ♥️Incredible view totally worth it
