Pedro St. James National Historic Site, Grand Cayman

#1 of 18 in Historic Sites in Cayman Islands
Visit the oldest building in the Cayman Islands, Pedro St. James National Historic Site. Built in 1780, the house belonged to plantation owner William Eden, and underwent restoration in 1996 after decades of abandonment. The old manor served as the birthplace of democracy in the Caymans, where notable island citizens met and decided to vote for their representatives. Step back in time as you roam the interior, carefully restored with period furniture, and imagine what life was like for the wealthy Englishman that built the mansion in the 18th century. • We went on a Sunday and it was very quiet. The movie was very cool. Our daughter got engaged at the gazebo while we were there. The gift shop's prices were very reasonable! The bar has a rum...  more »
  • We loved this place, one of the highlights of our Grand Cayman trip! The tour guides are very energetic, knowledgeable, and passionate about the history of Pedro St. James. The rum tasting was a self-serve, so you definitely get all the rum you'd want to drink in an afternoon. The 1780 rum was delicious, very smooth. We bought some to bring back home (you can't purchase it anywhere else). This place is a must-see for the rich history, breathtaking views, and tasty rum!
  • Very nice, rustic, and historic area to explore. Had a wonderful older gentleman that was a part of the historic Eden family show us around the property and tell stories about the place, even some personal memories. We watched a 15 minute video explaining the political history of the island and Pedro St. James. I'm glad we stopped here.
