Trip Planner: Central America / Costa Rica / Province of Alajuela / Arenal Volcano National Park / La Fortuna de San Carlos / La Fortuna Waterfall
A short drive from town, La Fortuna Waterfall offers an idyllic place for swimming, picnicking, and relaxing. Fed by the Arenal River, which winds its way through the rainforest before plunging dramatically over a steep cliff, this waterfall forms a large pool at the base of a dormant volcano. Lifeguards remain on duty throughout the day, while modern facilities like restrooms and showers ensure a comfortable visit in a lush area noted for thick vegetation and abundant wildlife. Prepare for a short but arduous hike to the base of the waterfall by wearing shoes suitable for slippery and uneven terrain. This waterfall is reason enough to spend a day or two in La Fortuna At 200 feet high with a pool to swim in at the bottom or a stream for children this is the perfect place. I was able to have 90 minutes of fun with my 10 month old. 500 steps down and up is not an exaggeration. The cost of 20USD is worth it however you could not spend more then about 2 hours here without getting bored.
Awesome waterfall located in Costa Rica. The hike is quite long so come prepared with hiking shoes and sportswear. All ages can do it, just good physical condition is recommended. All right early to avoid the crowds as it gets crowded in high season. Very famous spots for travelers and tourist
