A cluster of ancient ruins of great architectural and historical significance, Acropolis of Athens has been the star attraction of Athens for many centuries and is a World Heritage Site. Sitting on a rocky hill just above the city, this age-old citadel contains ruins of temples constructed during the 5th century BCE. The "City on a Hill," as its name roughly translates, contains outstanding examples of Classical architecture that continues to influence the building styles of modern cities around the world. Although pollution and exposure to weather continue to take their toll on the ancient buildings, the historical hill remains an important reminder of the cultural influence and political power ancient Greece once exercised on the rest of the world. Acropolis of Athens Reviews
As this place is one of the main sights of Athens, it’s bound to be crowded. We were stuck in long lines and it was very crowded up on the hill, but it’s a must see attraction. more »
Beautiful views but it is not worth spending hour waiting for tickets as well as the area is not big. Pretty expensive. more »
This place is amazing, one of my favorites in the world. Is not a difficult walk, taking the right time anyone can do it. The best time to go is during the sunset, you can see the sun setting on the city. Its just wonderful. ❤❤ I've been there twice and since it's really big is never too crowded. They close a little bit early than the time scheduled.
Perhaps the most important place to visit in Athens Greece. Get there as early as you can to beat some of the crowds or wait for a couple hours. It would be nice to be part of a guided tour. Or you can just casually listen in on other English guides. Count on spending two or three hours there. It also offers great views of the city.
