I bet you will not find any other places in Iceland with such many colors in the landscape. The visit to Landmannalaugar was absolutely one of the highlights of my trip to Iceland. I highly recommend ... more »

In case of doubt just stare what all vehicles over there is. There is a fairly large house with showers, toilets and washbasins. Hot water outside for rinsing off are also available. The campers can cook in a separate larger tent and food. The main attraction is the natural bathing area with hot water. Depending on where you sit in the Creek, it is warmer or colder. But beware: summer geese at the headwaters settle and unfortunately parasites from the Group of Trematodes in the water to deal with their droppings. This Bister may have in the menschl. Drill holes in skin and cause very unpleasant itching, the so called swimmers itch. In-itself not dangerous (except you scratching up), you do not need it but also. We were there in early September, the geese were gone long time and hence the parasites (disappear soon after departure of geese). Therefore, we could fully enjoy the bath. With geese, I wouldn't be in the water. There are plenty of hiking opportunities in the region. We have only a short (approx. 2.25 h) undertaken. Starting just behind the reception cottage, a short climb on the lava field (from here above have photographers overlooking the 'colorful mountains' when the Sun at your back over the edge). Through the incredibly beautiful lava field is a fabulous backdrop, in the direction of a flood plain, in turn then left branching off the Solfataras, that also pretty much steam and beautiful smell of sulphur. Then again a piece in the lava field, to a small ravine with Bach, follow it back to camp. Super nice. In the camp there is also an old bus that was converted into a mini market (very limited offer, but for camping-food cooking enough). The pitches for camper vans at the edge of the tent area are without electricity connection option. Who at night will not freeze, so needs a gas / diesel heater or to snuggle up closely (like us, because our heater was defective). In the summer months to go to pretty, our time was not so much going on. Thus full points from me. We have made the journey over the very scenic route out of the North (2 trips to small lakes that are not drawn in each map are highly recommended. The last meters to 2. Lake are crisp, we are slow with gear and diff lock up - and again down grabbed. For the return trip, we chose the even nicer variant to the West, there's a Ford, which may be too selective at higher water levels. Thanks to master our genuine SUV but without any problems.
The most beautiful hike I've ever done. Stunning rhyolite coloured mountains in every direction - you'll constantly be in awe everywhere you look. It is only open for a few months every year (during Summer) and campsite grounds has clean toilets and showers to use.
One of the most specactular places on earth! Doing a hike in the surroundings it's a must.
