Akshardham serves as a grand complex dedicated to Lord Swaminarayan, the founder of the prominent Hindu civic organization BAPS. A massive and intricately carved pink sandstone mandir--a Hindu place of worship--stands as the centerpiece of the 23 acre (9.3 hectare) complex. Standing at a height of 108 ft (33 m) and covering a floor area of 32,427 sq ft (3,014 sq m), this mandir features over 6,000 tons (5.5 million lbs) of pink sandstone. After you finish marveling at the main mandir, stroll through the complex's series of decorative mandapams--pillared outdoor halls used for public rituals. The complex also features artistic and historic exhibits meant to educate visitors about the path to spiritual enlightenment. Unless you have time to kill I wouldn't suggest to visit this temple due to all the below constraints 1) you cannot take pictures as you need to deposit all cameras and phones by standing in queue and... more »
Excellent and serene place, very nicely maintained. Water Show is amazing and a Don’t Miss Event. The grass lawns and plants are also well maintained. more »
The outer look of the temple is magnificent. It's a must go to place when you are in Delhi. There's ample space for parking. The management is also appreciable. They'll provide you instructions over the speaker. Entrance is totally free. Parking is also free. But you'll definitely be drained out by sun if you go in the daytime because of lack of shade and also due to long lines of visitors. To escape the heat, the best time would be in the evening when they also showcase beautiful water fountain and also sometimes few clips from Hindu mythical stories. But the crowd will be same no matter what time of the a day it is. They don't allow any metallic items inside the premises. So it's better to keep them back in your vehicle rather than standing in line for deposit. No photos allowed inside the premises and also no food items.
Best place to be in peace. One can simply spend the whole day their enjoying the architecture, museum, movie and the boat ride. The canteen is huge and serves the traditional yummy food. The best thing is that the phones are not allowed here. Awesome experience. One cannot regret being here.
