Thazhuthala Sree Maha Ganapathy temple , the abode of Lord Vigneswara is situated at Thazhuthala , a serene and peaceful village two kilometers north of Kottiyam Junction , a fast developing town in NH 47, ten kilometers south of Kollam city, in God's own country Kerela.

As the abode of Vigneswara, the diety that removes all obstacles and hinderances and his steed Mosshika (rat), the temple is famous for the great elephant procession known as 'Gaja khosha Yatra' the mighty tuskers with its froutlets ranges upto hundred in one processia. Viewers from all states of Kerala and abroad fill their minds with aesthetic beauty and enthusiastic wonder.

The idol that appears beneath a huge banyan tree over five decades back becomes the omnipotent and omniscient power during the new millennium . While seeking the reason for the disasters and mishaps in the village, the holy 'devaprasna' (astrological findings) reveals the presence of the mighty power and suggest to construct a proper temple and whole-hearted offerings and worships. Thus the great carnival known as Avittam Thirunal Mahotsavam started in the year 2000 and continues on the eve of Avittam Nal in 'Makara' month .The ten days long carnival and cultural programs attracts lakhs of people every year.

The presence of well known elephants of Kerala drags the attention of natives as well as foreigners. Guruvayoor Kesavan , Nanadan , Indrasan , Mangalamkunnu Karnan , Ganapathy , Pampady Rajan , Thrikkadavoor Sivarajan , etc.. were the center of attraction every year. Year by year the fame of Sree Maha Ganapathy Temple spreads worldwide and pilgrims sought the solace from Sree Vinayaka and left the temple with peace and contentment.
