Tanah Lot Temple, Beraban

4.2
Built onto a giant offshore rock, Tanah Lot Temple remains one of the more venerated Hindu structures with strong ties to Balinese mythology. One of seven significant sea temples spread across Bali's coastline, this shrine is allegedly the work of Dan Hyang Nirartha, a 16th-century religious figure and traveler who founded the island's Shaivite priesthood. Though you can walk to the rock during low tide, keep in mind that non-Balinese visitors cannot enter the temple itself. The site--one of the most photographed in Bali--draws huge crowds at sunset, when soft light bathes the area and creates a nearly magical atmosphere. • • The best time to visit Tanah Lot is in the evening, an hour before sunset to capture the most magnificent sunset views. • If you wish to avoid crowds, especially during high tourist season, suggest ...  more »
  • Definitely the most impressive temple of Bali island. Positioned on a steep rock with the waves crashing on the wall facing the sea makes this place truly unique. All the guides advise against going there at sunset due to the crowds of people on the site and traffic on the roads that is generated during the return of tourists to the hotel. My advice: just for this case don't listen to the guides. True everything they say but the game is worth the candle. Matches with serenity and let yourself be enchanted by the sunset views from the cliff. Ultimately you are on vacation and I don't know how many times you happen to be on the island of Bali while the last sunrays radiate out and illuminate the time Tanah Lot temple with its light. A small gem only for those who have read the whole review: when you are in front of the temple go left and climb the opposite cliff. You'll have fewer people around to enjoy the scenery and being you away people are small and not very influential in photographs without compromising the shot. I also add a picture to better understand what I mean.

  • ++ Outstanding view. + beautiful surrounding area with a lot of greenery and possibility to sit on the grass and have a exotic drink. + good market and many restaurants at the area however didn't by or eat anything so can't mention anything about it. - only minus (small minus) is that on all the pictures it seems that you can actually visit the main temple but we were not allowed since it is in the middle of the sea which was a bit of a disappointment. But it could have been due to the strong winds, not sure since I forgot to ask!
  • Very beautiful and peaceful. Good place to be around in Bali. The views of the ocean are amazing. The whole campus requires a lot of walking through the shores and above the ground but it's all worth it. There are food and drinks shops so you can also enjoy local cuisine and have some beers too. Shopping is also good. Bali is a cheap country but don't be fooled if you are a foreigner. Must Visit place in Bali!
