Both a protected reserve and a temple complex, Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary shelters several hundred long-tailed Balinese macaques. The monkeys get their nourishment from the forest staff, which feeds them sweet potatoes several times a day. Though you can't give the monkeys peanuts, cookies, or other snacks, you can purchase bananas if you want to feed the little ones yourself--just be prepared for a lot of attention from these cheeky creatures, and stow away valuables and shiny objects. This jungle sanctuary contains three temples, allegedly constructed in the 14th century. Keep in mind you can enter sacred sections of the temples only if you wear traditional praying clothes. Stop by the forest office near the main entrance, which accepts donations and provides detailed information about the sanctuary's history and significance. Sacred Monkey Forest Sanctuary Reviews
This was one of the best things we did in Ubud. The monkeys are really cute and they live in a magical place. Worth to spend there 1-2 hours at least. Just don't touch or feed them! :) more »
It might get dangerous and it does. Monkeys get aggressive, attack people and steal whatever they could grab. The gueards find it difficult to manage them. more »
I absolutely loved the money forest. Its an animal attraction where the animals are the ones that run the show not people. It's clearly their home and we have to be the respectful visitors. The guides are amazing and do a great job protecting the monkeys and the people. It's a well kept park and an unforgettable experience. Please respect the rules and the monkeys and enjoy yourselves!!!
This is absolutely worth it!! You will get amazing photos of monkeys and get to see them monkeying around, eating, and grooming. Great excursion for the whole family or solo travelers. The sanctuary is almost completely shaded from large trees so you won't be hot walking around. Don't bring food in your bag or loose items!! The monkeys will jump on you
