Visit the largest Anglo-Norman castle in Ireland, Trim Castle, which appeared in the acclaimed 1995 film "Braveheart." Hugh de Lacy, Lord of Meath, and his son built the three-storied keep. Construction began on the site of an old wooden fortress in 1176 and continued over a 30-year period. The Lord of Meath used the castle as the center of administration. Since its completion, the castle has also served as a mint for Irish currency and a meeting place for Parliament. Explore the historic keep, which is only accessible on 45-minute guided tours. After the tower you can move only guided tour takes approx. 45 minutes, and is probably every hour (we walked 15 after). We got on average a pleasant Lord speaker with a very heavy accent. In the same Tower too much happens-bare walls and three mock:) But still worth a throw in those few eurosków with the same opportunity to admire the surroundings from the roof. And around are really beautiful.
Brenda was a great guide. Very informative tour of the castle with plenty of historical context. Worth the modest fee - €13 for family of 4 - good way to spend a couple of hours.
Do the castle tour. All the staff are incredibly knowledgeable. Really interesting and a great view from the roof. The castle itself is really impressive. Well worth it.
