Head to the summit of Mount Hakodate to enjoy rewarding views of the city's picturesque bay. You can reach the 334 m (1096 ft) tall peak by car or bus, or attempt to hike up the steep, forested mountain. Also available is a scenic ropeway, which can take you straight to the viewpoint and remains the most popular form of transport. For a slightly different perspective, come by after dark, when the shimmering lights endow the city with a magical appearance and provide an ideal backdrop for a few nighttime shots. • We stayed in Hakodate for two consecutive nights and enjoyed the night view on the "Night View Course" of the regular sightseeing bus on the first night. At the second, fifth, and ninth spots, the guide taught us how to enjoy the scenery, and the bus was very exciting. The wind was cold, but the view of the night view from the top of the mountain was exceptional. In the daytime of the next day, we took a ropeway to the top of the mountain. It is also perfectly nice to enjoy the view while having tea at the observation restaurant. Both the night view and the daytime view are wonderful, and if you are going to visit Hakodate with great pains, please enjoy both by all means.

  • I went after 17:00. Because it was sunny, it was very beautiful, and there is a different impression from what I see on TV. The move was moved by the ropeway. I was able to get on the train right away, but I lined up for about 30 minutes on the way back. It might be comfortable to go after seeing the area.

  • No wonder it is one of Japanese three best night views, although quite crowded at night the view was so great. You could see Hakodate at night which has a shape of Hourglass. Be careful with the weather because if it is foggy or cloudy you might not see anything.
  • You can see a nice view of Hakodate from here. You can either take the bus from Hakodate station and go directly to the top, or you can take the cable car. At night, you can get a cheaper ticket if you take bus, however it can be VERY crowded at night time since you will see many tourist and couples going up there. There is a very nice cafe and restaurant where you can see the view. Staff were friendly and speaks English at the restaurant. If you are in Hakodate, I would recommend you to go here since the view is pretty amazing and different from other peaks.
