Located within a larger park commemorating the bombing of Hiroshima, Atomic Bomb Dome haunts with the memory of the lives lost during the attack. Now designated as a World Heritage Site, the former exhibition hall was the only building that remained standing near the bomb's hypocenter; today, it memorializes the 70,000 who perished immediately in the bombing, as well as the additional 70,000 who passed away from the bomb's aftereffects. Though you cannot enter the ruin, you can approach and circle the surrounding gate to see light flooding through the skeleton of the building. Atomic Bomb Dome Reviews
Na een kwartiertje lopen zijn we aangekomen in het vredes park. Het is een prachtig park ter herdenking, de koepel is heftig om te zien, te denken wat er allemaal is gebeurd! more »After a fifteen minute walk we arrived in the peace park. It's a beautiful park to commemorate, the dome is fierce to see, thinking what has happened!
La visite du musée et du dôme s'impose . Émouvant et on y apprend et voit des choses mal connues en Europe . Terrible et tragique histoire . more »A visit to the museum and the dome is a must. Emotional and we learn and see things little known in Europe . Terrible and tragic story .
This is one of the area to remind us that there should never be wars anymore. There are many memorial statues and buildings here, including the memorial peace museum. Take a walk in the morning, afternoon and evening to enjoy different views. Tram or street train are available within a short 10 minutes ride from Hiroshima station. Must visit area of Hiroshima
A tragic part of history presented in such a beautiful, tranquil way really pushes home the whole pursuit of world peace. As the entire city represents so well. The smell of the ocean while taking in the building and surrounding space is a moment I think most people who visit will treasure and take with them. There are many great places to shop and eat around the park and the atmosphere is considerably less somber than I thought it would be. A must visit for any first timers in Japan!
