Reflect on Okinawa's often violent history at Okinawa Peace Memorial Park, located on the southern tip of the island. An estimated 200,000 people died in Okinawa during one of the bloodiest battles of the war, from April to June 1945. A turn around the park provides you with a chance to observe perfectly maintained gardens leading to a series solemn monuments and the top of Peace Hill. The monumental Cornerstone of Peace lists the names of thousands of soldiers and civilians lost in the Battle of Okinawa. Be sure to step inside Peace Memorial Museum, where a detailed, sobering synopsis of the battle illuminates the severity of the war's effect on the island. Put Okinawa Peace Memorial Park at the forefront of your travel plans using our Itoman driving holiday site.

During WW2 this area was a battle ground! Simply said the land carries a lot of history. With outdoor remembrance towers and the lot the grounds are filled with history. Inside there is a museum (300 yen for adults) which goes into detail with a large number of exhibitions and eye witness accounts of what really went on during that time. Translators are provided. Great day out!

Definitely a must visit place while in Okinawa. Peace Memorial Park is contains various memorials of the war. On a nice day, walking around the grounds is very enjoyable. There is a playground for the kids as well that will definitely keep them entertained. There are public restrooms and vending machines throughout the park. Walking around the grounds is free but there are fees for the museums.
