For centuries a source of respite and escape, Arashiyama offers a glimpse of natural beauty outside of Kyoto. The district has a variety of outdoor activities: visit the Japanese macaques in the monkey park, or take a rowboat out onto the lake. Don't miss the bamboo grove, a gentle uphill trail through densely packed stalks, ending at a historic imperial villa and its surrounding landscaped gardens. Обязательно нужно прогуляться по главной туристической улице, полюбоваться видами с моста, посетить Парк обезьян и Бамбуковый лес. Здесь много храмов, есть возможность подняться по тропе на гору Араши... more »Be sure to walk along the main tourist street, admire the views from the bridge, visit monkey park and Bamboo Forest. There are many temples, there is an opportunity to climb the trail to Mount Arashiyama, which offers stunning views of Kyoto. But the Museum of the Owls and there is also a museum of cats on the main street do not advise to visit. Owls are fastened with a lock to the branch on which they sit. I feel sorry for them. There were no visitors, few people want to see birds in captivity, and even in such unbearable conditions. The Cats were not impressed either. We wished we'd gone in there. That's the only thing that upset us in Arashiam. Everything else is amazing and impressive. No wonder this place inspired many poets and artists. They left with the thought of coming back here someday.
We went back twice. Only 25 minutes from Kyoto by bus. There is so much to see, but also a great place to relax. You can visit the bamboo forest and the monkey's. Don't forget the cat cafe (Bengal Cat... more »
Beautiful area with much more to offer than just the bamboo forest alone. Unless you're here really early in the morning, be prepared that it's almost impossible to get a photo without having many other visitors in your shot. Good to spend about 2 hours slowly exploring the area and going on a hike in the surroundings. No trouble finding food or souvenirs in the shops before you head off to your next destination!
The most beautiful spot is not at the beginning of the path, but further away past Tenryuji Temple entrance, where bamboo groves grow further apart from each other, allowing it to become thick and beautiful. You can rent a bike, take a rickshaw ride or stroll the path (it will cost you nothing— just prepare yourself and your camera) to enjoy the beautiful sight
