Visit the ruins of Nakijin Castle Ruins, a 14th-century Ryukyuan castle and part of a World Heritage Site. Destroyed by the Japanese in the 1609 invasion of Okinawa, the ruins were abandoned. Nowadays, you can explore the imposing stone walls of the former castle, spread out across the lush forested hills, or visit the small museum that displays artifacts found on the premises. From the hilltop ruin site, you can enjoy scenic views of the East China Sea. Ask Inspirock to suggest an itinerary and make planning a trip to Nakijin-son fast, fun, and easy.

  • I was going to visit here the next day, but when I heard the news that the weather was getting worse, I thought it was before it rained, so I came to the last minute of the evening. Looking up from the entrance, it looked like a long climb, but when i started walking, I quickly reached the top. From the top, stone walls crawl through the jungle, like the Great Wall of China, and it's majestic. The East China Sea was overseen on the other side of the jungle, and the old people looked closely at here and felt that they were preparing for the invasion of foreign enemies. (Though the person of we Yamato was included externally.

  • I think that the building of that size is always terrible in hot Okinawa. It is strange how such a stone was carried and piled up.

  • Superb place with stunning views and also sakura blossoming. Something to consider if you are in the area! If you come on sundays, there seemed to be a magic show which was free as well! Splendid!
  • Not a big castle, and it was raining so we didn't spend much time here. We were there on 9th February 2019, when there was the cherry blossom festival, but there weren't many shops that impressed us. But the view was fantastic and the sakura was beautiful.
