  • As we stayed in the Yanaka district, near the museum, we decided to visit the Asakura Sculpture Museum in Tokyo. Fumio Asakura is a Japanese sculptor who is best known for his cat sculptures. After his death, his house Annex Atelier became a museum. There are some images to admire (often replicas) and a guide tells what about the artist's life, but the biggest surprise is the building itself. It has been designed and built by Asakura with the finest materials. Central is the inner garden with a large pond where you have a different view from all sides of the house. The rooms of the three-storey house have names like ' the room of the sunrise ' and on the flat roof is another garden landscaped with even a tree and bushes and statues on the corners and chimneys. All rooms have tatamimates, sliding panels and beautiful scrolls on the walls. Very Japanese and very nice. And what a week later it was nice to see in the Hakone Open Air Museum Some of the most beautiful cat statues of Asakura in real.

  • You can never see anything just by looking at it from the outside. Please come inside. It is a place to be aweable, which seems natural to take off your shoes and always wear socks. Not only is the building itself his greatest work, but the work is overwhelming. It is an extremely valuable cultural heritage. It is possible to take a picture only on the roof, the orchid, and the outside.

  • I just loved learning about the “Rodin of Japan” Fumio Asakura! What a wonderful artist! We had a pleasant time visiting the museum! It’s a beautiful and peaceful sanctuary full of life and grace built by the great artist! Deeply grateful for visiting it :-D
  • Asakura demonstrated his mastery of the 3D form by tackling what must be the hardest subject, that of the domestic cat. No other sculptor in the history of humanity has shown such skill, with most not even attempting to climb this highest peak of the sculptural arts. Not only did Asakura make it to the top, he did it in brass, and with the ringing endorsement of his chosen subjects. Totally unmissable.
