Trip Planner: Asia / Japan / Kanto / Tokyo Prefecture / Tokyo / Taito / Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum
Admire an array of art exhibits at Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum, a cultural institution located within a wider public park. Originally opened in 1926, the facility underwent major changes in 1975 and 2010, creating a contemporary space that appeals inside and out. The six galleries host exhibits on a range of international art scenes and artists; each space serves only for temporary shows, as the museum does not have a permanent collection. Head back into the European Renaissance, get to know contemporary Japanese artists, or admire folk art from across the globe at this ever-changing venue. Check the website to see what's on currently. Tokyo Metropolitan Art Museum Reviews
上野のある東京都美術館、クリムト展は40分待ち。館内も大混雑。日本の美術館は平日に来た方が良いですね、、、 more »Tokyo Metropolitan Museum of Art and Klimt exhibition in Ueno wait 40 minutes. The hotel is also very crowded. Japanese museums should come on weekdays、、、
more »At the back of Ueno Park, when you enter the brick building next to the zoo, the ticket office is still sparse. The entrance was put in a little side by side without difficulty, so it's a relief. Yesterday's preparation at the National Museum of Art was working, and when you come out to enjoy the charm of Klimt without leaving, the long line though it is a weekday. It is still limited to the first thing in the morning. The influence of the television is large.
Went for the Bonsai Expo and it was incredible. Very well set out, easy to navigate, smiling staff and easy to know where to go. They put on a free shuttle bus to the bonsai trade fair - it was great!
Went to see the Munch exhibit. When you pay for a ticket it's specific to the one exhibit, so the other art we saw was a free to enter exhibit. The Munch exhibit alone was extensive though! I believe it was 3 floors full of his works. They had the original painting of the scream and it was incredible. It was nicely curated and had a variety of his work along with the story of his life. Was most disappointed that they didn't have the pikachu souvenir that I wanted even though it was available a couple of days after we went when my friends checked it out.
