A hub of cultural attractions, Ueno Park originally served as the gardens of the Kaneiji Temple during the Edo period. In 1873 it opened to the public as one of the first Western-style parks. An island temple to the goddess of fortune and beauty floats in its pond, while the national museum and art museum stand as bastions of Japan's rich heritage. Rest up between cultural sightseeing, stop by the zoo, or visit the market under the elevated train line. In the spring, join the flocks of visitors enjoying the over 800 blossoming cherry trees. Visited this park at 10pm and again at 11am the next day. Felt very safe there even late In the evening. Park is so clean and well maintained, just a few steps away from the train! It’s massive in size and a lot to see and do during the day. Would recommend 2-3 hours here. There’s a zoo, a lake to walk around or paddle boat on, restaurants, a couple temples/ shrines, massive water fountain, and a few museums. It’s beautiful here, I would highly recommend a visit. Or if you have time to waste, bring a blanket and snacks and read a book in the grass or on the seating around the fountain.
Grounds always nice & well kept. Good food stalls always by the pond. Swan boats to peddle in there. Pond has flowers/fish/ducks! Has great history museum close with good bathrooms! Cheap to get in. Lots of picturesque trees any time of year.
