Lake Kussharo, Teshikaga-cho

Go fishing, hiking, kayaking, and cycling around Lake Kussharo, Japan's largest caldera lake that freezes over completely in the winter. Soak away your worries in an outdoor hot spring bath and walk over hot sands along the lakeshore. You can also visit Wakoto Peninsula if you wish to see active sulfurous vents or enjoy a hike through the forest. Acidic water of the lake supports only a few species here, such as a rare form of cicada and rainbow trout. • First visit with a friend. It's still freezing, and there's snow, so there's a lot of steam from the lake side. There was a sign board of the open-air bath at the entrance of the peninsula. Unfortunately, i gave up bathing because of lack of preparation. The clouds were beautiful on the surface of the lake where the ice melted with hot water.

  • These are beautiful swans that you can feed. Warning. Do not bring your own food, you have to buy food from the souvenir shop near the lake.
