National Museum of Western Art
Home to the most significant public art collection in the country, National Museum of Western Art specializes in Impressionism. Established in 1959, the museum features a main building designed by widely revered French architect Le Corbusier, and is a work of art in its own right. Immerse yourself in two floors of diverse works, taking special note of the 58-piece Rodin collection, alluded to by the trio of sculptures located outside the museum. Stop by the shop for an extensive collection of some 3,000 books on art and design, or drop into the onsite cafe to grab some refreshments. Not as extensive as some other museums, but still, the works are of extremely high quality with fairly good signage. Most of the works are by 2nd tier artists (many of whom I, an amateur, did not recognize), but there are some Grand Masters on display. All told, a nice collection. And, good for me, free to seniors of 65 and above.

The Reubens special exhibit was great. It includes the famous self-portrait among others. The permanent collection has some Monet, Cezanne, a couple Picassos -- not the most famous examples of their work, but worth seeing if you are a fan of European art and want to spend an hour in a museum.
