A trip to Memoire Du Temps allows you to see first-hand why Lebanon is considered the country with the largest collection of fish fossils in the world. What started as the fascination of one man, some 80 years ago, turned into a family business over time, and eventually became an important record of the country’s cultural and historical heritage. Explore the family museum to inspect numerous displays of different fossilized sea creatures found in the vicinity of Byblos. You can take a tour led by one of the brothers who own the place; they'll tell you the story of how their grandfather's passion was sparked by his discovery of a single fossil, and how that passion led to him building the museum. If you're lucky, you can even join an occasional fossil search led by museum staff. Discover how to plan a Byblos trip in just a few steps with Inspirock's itinerary builder.

Here you can learn a lot about fossils and maybe even buy one - come and ask for Pierre. He is a great source of information about geology and extincted species and he shares it with real passion... more »
Impressive collection in a small little shop in the middle of the old town of Byblos, Lebanon. Learned few things about the revolution of the aquatic life; and why these fossils were found at an altitude of 800 meters above sea level!? Very kind shop owner who took his time explaining how these fossils were excavated. They only go out to the field to excavate when the weather is good, so we missed this opportunity during the hot month of August! Prices range from cheap to very expensive depending on the fossil size and details. They even give a certificate with the purchase with some useful info on it and to show authenticity of the piece.
The shop owner gives you a brief introducing to the fossil from 100 million year ago. Most of the species are already extinct. The price ranges from 10 USD to very high, each comes with its one certificate. It makes a great souvenir.
