St. Anne's Church, Vilnius

4.7
An ornate example of Gothic architecture within the historical city center, St. Anne's Church and its red brick spires represent one of Vilnius' most recognizable buildings. Originally constructed in 1500, the church survived multiple wars, conflicts, and 50 years of Soviet rule. Legend has it that the invading Napoleon found it so beautiful that he wished to send it brick-by-brick back to Paris for his own. Despite the outside, its interior is Baroque: keep an eye out for the ornate altar and carved wooden statues. Take in the sizeable stained-glass windows, high vaulted ceilings, and incorporation of the church's signature bricks into the arches themselves. • I stopped while strolling in the old town. I sat in the last chair because some kind of ceremony started when I entered the inside by chance. I did not know the contents, but I could feel a solemn atmosphere completely different from the usual living environment. However, I was sorry for many tourists who went out to callous when they came in with slapstick and took pictures loud.

  • No, it is not neo-Gothic, many authors banal passed by this outstanding place. A real Gothic example of architecture, which is not much in the Villenskoye region. One of the oldest streets of Vilnius, the ensemble of the restored Church of Bernardintsev will complement the impressions. And hiding behind the old door only and think of the hectic worldly

  • Very interesting architecture. You can visit inside also for free and take pictures. While walking around Vilnius old town you can’t miss this church anyways.
