Trip Planner: South Pacific / New Zealand / North Island / Northland Region / Bay of Islands / Paihia / Haruru Falls
When in Paihia, use the opportunity to take a break and immerse yourself in the scenic natural surroundings of Haruru Falls. While at 5 m (16 ft) the waterfall may not be one of the tallest in New Zealand, it's definitely one of the easiest to reach. After a short walk over a well-maintained trail through lush nature, you'll be able to enjoy the views of the waterfall and relax on one of the benches. Despite not being very tall, the waterfall is fairly wide and carries a lot of water, especially during the colder months. If you're visiting when the weather is chillier, make sure to bring waterproof clothes to protect yourself from the spray. The Haruru Falls are beautiful. They're a great place for kayaking at the bottom of the water fall, and above it there are rock pools with lots of little creatures in them to find. It was definitely a nice place to stop for a break on our roadtrip and I would recommend it to others passing through.
Although the waterfall quite small, it's quite wide, and the view is quite nice. For me, looking at it from a far is much more appealing compared to see up close. You can kayak close to the bottom of the waterfall if you want.
