Learn about astronomy from a different viewpoint at Planetarium Cusco. The family-run planetarium introduces you to the astronomy learnings of the Incas, a civilization with a special connection to the stars. The planetarium organizes excursions to its scenic location, secluded in the hills above Cusco (your ticket includes transportation to/from the city). Learn about the Incas, their history, and how the stars impacted their agriculture and architecture, as well as other aspects of their culture. View the slideshow of constellations projected in the intimate viewing room before going out into the night for some relaxing stargazing. Verify their schedule on the website and reserve in advance. • It is one of the most interesting experiences you can do in Cusco. The reservation is made in advance and can be via web. Payment is S/.75.00 soles per person and is paid at the end of the exhibition (credit cards are not accepted). There are two schedules a day, we went to the 6pm, therefore we were told that we would be picked up from the Plaza Regocijo (Plaza Cusipata) which is two blocks from the Plaza de Armas, and that they would wear blue jackets, therefore we must be attentive. The observatory is in the upper part of Cusco, therefore at that time it runs a lot of wind and added to the cold is for some unbearable, therefore you have to go well warm, and it is not enough just a bump, if it is possible to use chompa, casaca, gloves, , wool caps and as much as you can. The same visitors are aware of the cold that it makes and serve you coca mate and give you blankets. The tour consists of three parts, an explanation by means of slides, then a room with projector where they simulate in the sky and the constellations (here I learned to quickly identify the Southern Cross) and finally in the outer garden they place three telescopes where you can see the stars that are best appreciated at the time. The full visit will depend on how clear the sky is, so I recommend going in dry season where there are almost no clouds.

  • Amazing experience. Highly recommend and worth the cost. Hosts explained history of Inka and Peruvian stars/astrology clearly and with so much passion. You could tell they love the night sky. They made a huge effort to show us stars/constellations even with some clouds and we saw many wonderful things. History explaination and dome were informative! Loved it.
  • This place was lots of fun. They are a family owed and operated. It was cloudy the night that we went, but during the occasional break in clouds they would stop what they were talking about and take us outside so we could see through the telescope. They very informative and very knowledge about. The Planetarium dome was amazing! It was fun to hear about all the southern hemisphere constellation and also the Inca constellations. Overall I would definitely recommend going here if you are in Cusco!
