Garden Park Must See
Located just a short drive southeast of St. Petersburg, opulent Catherine Palace and Park once served as the official summer residence of Russian royalty. Originally built on the orders of Empress Catherine I, the imposing palace underwent a massive reconstruction during the reign of her daughter Elizabeth, who spent exorbitant sums on grandiose Baroque projects. No expense spared, the building's facade and roof statues once contained over 100 kg (220 lbs) of gold. Now part of a World Heritage Site, the palace and its gardens represent the finest expression of Russian imperial architecture. The easiest way to explore this massive complex is with an audio guide, available at the on-site ticket office. Check online for opening hours and guided tour options. • Visited in May holidays. Very high season with often disgusting weather. Excursions from Peter cost from 2 500 per person. I did not want to overpay. The familiar employees of Ekaterininsky explained that in high season you can stand in the queue for 3-4 hours and not get into the palace. And they can not help, they are all strictly. I called the Palace, I was politely explained that tickets appear on the site of Catherine 14 days before the visit and sold out instantly. By tracking on the site I realized that Moscow time to 07-00...

  • Immense palace of singular and incredible beauty, has ample gardens perfectly maintained and cared for. Inside it has countless rooms that describe the history of Russia and its rulers, all furnished with objects owned by them, the ornamentation of all the halls is beautiful and remains in perfect condition. Also essential to understand the history of Russia. Pin. We had the opportunity to attend a private tour at night that concluded with a music and dance show in the main room, simply dreamed, the living room is magnificent and beautiful.

  • A great Palace. Strong recommend to purchase ticket online as you can indeed skip the long queue to get in from a separate entrance. All tourists are in the main Palace, while few in other surrounding museums
  • Having a chance to be in Saint Petersburg city you have to spend at least one day in Catherine Garden and Palace allocated in Pushkin city. It is a gorgeous place. You spouse and children will be grateful for that trip. Be sure!
