Gaomei Wetland, Qingshui

#1 of 89 in Parks in Taichung
An elevated boardwalk snaking through a biodiverse landscape, Gaomei Wetland provides a protected sanctuary for wildlife and plant life. Established in 2005, the wetlands span 300 ha (741.3 ac) of land, consisting of a vast plain of marshy terrain scattered with wind turbines. Stroll the seemingly never-ending length of boardwalk, looking out for tiny crabs and birds in the surrounding watery reeds. Try to time your visit to coincide with sunset, which offers particularly spectacular views across the shimmering expanse. • Such a must visit place in Taichung. Even though it took an hour to there from the city centre, the sunset is such a unforgettable experience. We spent about 2 hours there for taking photo TIL...  more »
  • A well-preserved natural place! Wide wet land and long line of wind mills can not avoid my eyes. In particular the sunset scene must be the best one compared to other sunset scenes.  more »

  • So this is a nice spot to visit to watch the sunset near Taichung. It’s a bit of a drive from the city center, at about 45 minutes away. Honestly, it’s beautiful, yes. But if you’re looking to be in the city itself and explore, this place may not be for you. It’s a long ride to just watch the sunset over the ocean with open skies. If you’re hungry, there are a few small food stands and a couple restaurants across the road from the viewing area on the water. Am I glad I went? Sure. Would I go again? Probably not. Feels mostly like an instagramable spot at sunset for just a few minutes. If you do go, be sure to get there maybe 30-45 minutes before sunset, as the sun wasn’t quite visible behind the clouds. Bring a jacket too. The wind off the water can be quite chilly.
