The capital of Iraqi Kurdistan, Erbil occupies perhaps the longest-inhabited land in the world, with the earliest human settlement here possibly dating back to 5000 BCE.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Sun): stroll around Sami Abdulrahman Park, look for gifts at Bazaar, and then browse the different shops at Family Mall. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Jalil Khayat and his Children's Mosque, then contemplate the long history of Erbil Citadel, then see the interesting displays at Kurdish Textile Museum, and finally walk around Shanadar Park.

Kufa is a city in Iraq, about 170km south of Baghdad, and 10km northeast of Najaf. On the 2nd (Tue), steep yourself in history at Al Sahlah Great Mosque, contemplate the long history of Shrine Amir al-mo'menin Ali bin Abi Talib peace be upon him, and then stroll the grounds of Wadi Al-Salaam Cemetery. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Masjid Hannana, then make a trip to Maytham al-Tammar Shrine, then take an in-depth tour of House of Imam Ali Ibn Abi Taleb, and finally don't miss a visit to Great Mosque of Kufa.

Traveling by flight from Erbil to Kufa takes 1.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of flight and car; or drive. Traveling from Erbil in July, expect Kufa to be a bit warmer, temps between 53°C and 37°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 3rd (Wed) early enough to go by car to Karbala.

Karbala is a city in central Iraq, located about 100km southwest of Baghdad, and a few miles east of Lake Milh. Start off your visit on the 4th (Thu): make a trip to Shrine of the two sons of Muslim Ibn Aqeel, take in the spiritual surroundings of Al Abbas Holy Shrine, then make a trip to Imam Hussain's Shrine, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Tal Al Zainabeiah site.

Getting from Kufa to Karbala by car takes about 1.5 hours. Traveling from Kufa in July, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit cooler in Karbala, with lows of 32°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 4th (Thu) early enough to go by car to Baghdad.
