The port city of Otaru has long attracted domestic visitors, drawn in by the city's many historic buildings, and has started to garner international attention, too.
Kick off your visit on the 18th (Fri): look for gifts at Otaru Music Box Museum Main Building, take in the awesome beauty at Mt.Tengu, make a trip to JR Otaru Station, then brush up on your knowledge of spirits at Nikka Whisky Yoichi Distillery, and finally delve into the distant past at Oshoro Annular Stone. On the 19th (Sat), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: admire nature's wide array of creatures at Otaru Aquarium, explore the activities along Otaru Canal, then browse the eclectic array of goods at Sankaku Market, and finally steep yourself in history at The Site of Temiya Line.

Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia to Otaru is an approximately 13-hour combination of flight and train. You can also fly; or do a combination of bus, flight, and train. The time zone difference moving from Malaysia Time to Japan Standard Time is 1 hour. Plan for much colder temperatures traveling from Kuala Lumpur in October, with highs in Otaru at 15°C and lows at 11°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 20th (Sun) early enough to go by car to Niseko-cho.

Ranking as the most popular ski resort in Hokkaido, mountaintop Niseko-cho boasts great slopes and surprisingly vibrant nightlife.
Start off your visit on the 20th (Sun): fly down the slopes at Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, then hit the slopes at Niseko Village Ski Resort, and then get outside with Hokkaido Backcountry Club. On the 21st (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: soak in some Japanese tradition at some of the top local onsens, then explore the activities along Lake Toya, then tee off at Rusutsu Resort, and finally walk around Fukidashi Park.

Traveling by car from Otaru to Niseko-cho takes 1.5 hours. In October, daytime highs in Niseko-cho are 17°C, while nighttime lows are 9°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 22nd (Tue) to allow time to drive to Shiraoi-cho.

You can drive from Niseko-cho to Shiraoi-cho in 2.5 hours. Traveling from Niseko-cho in October, expect slightly colder with lows of 4°C in Shiraoi-cho. Finish your sightseeing early on the 23rd (Wed) to allow enough time to drive to Sapporo.

Family-friendly places like Historical Village of Hokkaido (Kaitaku-no Mura) and Shiroi Koibito Park will thrill your kids. Get outdoors at Okurayama Lookout and Mt. Moiwa. When in Sapporo, make a side trip to see Spas in Chitose, approximately 54 minutes away. Drive from Shiraoi-cho to Sapporo in 2.5 hours. Traveling from Shiraoi-cho in October, Sapporo is a bit warmer at night with lows of 11°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 26th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel back home.
