Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Odaiba District and Senso-ji Temple are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Shop till you drop at Ginza and Stockplus. And it doesn't end there: make a trip to Meiji Jingu Shrine, take a stroll through Akihabara, explore the world behind art at Tokyo National Museum, and admire the natural beauty at Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine and Gion are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Get out of town with these interesting Kyoto side-trips: Jindoji Temple (in Kizugawa) and Nara (Kofuku-ji Temple & Todai-ji Temple). Next up on the itinerary: steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, make a trip to Nishiki Market Shopping District, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Ryoanji Temple, and wander the streets of Arashiyama.
