Located on the coast in the middle of the island, Onna-son has become known for its beaches and seaside economy.
Step out of the city life by going to Minnajima Island and Scuba & Snorkeling. Nakagusuku Castle Ruins and Okinawa Peace Memorial Park are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Change things up with these side-trips from Onna-son: Motobu-cho (Okichan Theater & Bise no Fukugi Tree Road), Sefa-Utaki (in Nanjo) and Nakijin Castle Ruins (in Nakijin-son). There's still lots to do: step into the grandiose world of Katsuren Castle Ruins.

Singapore, Singapore to Onna-son is an approximately 10-hour combination of flight and bus. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. Traveling from Singapore to Onna-son, you'll lose 1 hour due to the time zone difference. Expect slightly colder temperatures when traveling from Singapore in May; daily highs in Onna-son reach 30°C and lows reach 24°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 17th (Sun) to allow enough time to travel to Yakushima-cho.

A popular destination for Japanese tourists, Kumage-gun Yakushima-cho is a true paradise for nature lovers, with over 1,900 species and subspecies of plants.
On the 18th (Mon), take in the dramatic scenery at Oko no Taki Fall, trek along Seibu Trail, and then explore the stunning scenery at Shiratani Unsuikyo Valley. Here are some ideas for day two: admire the sheer force of Sempiro Falls and then explore the wealth of natural beauty at Yakusugi Land.

You can do a combination of flight and taxi from Onna-son to Yakushima-cho in 6.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of ferry and taxi; or do a combination of bus, ferry, and taxi. Plan for little chillier nights when traveling from Onna-son in May since evenings lows in Yakushima-cho dip to 20°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 19th (Tue) so you can travel to Takachiho-cho.

The mountain town of Takachiho-cho remains a place of great importance to Japan's spiritual and natural heritage, and the point where these two things intersect.
On the 20th (Wed), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Takachiho Shrine, then explore the stunning scenery at Takachiho Gorge, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Yasugawara, and finally take in the spiritual surroundings of Amano Iwato Shrine. Here are some ideas for day two: don't miss a visit to Shirakawa Springs, take in the awesome beauty at Kunimigaoka, and then take in the dramatic scenery at Manai Falls.

You can do a combination of taxi, flight, and train from Yakushima-cho to Takachiho-cho in 7.5 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and ferry; or do a combination of taxi, flight, and bus. In May, daytime highs in Takachiho-cho are 29°C, while nighttime lows are 17°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 21st (Thu) to allow time to travel to Miyakojima.

Miyakojima

A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Kick off your visit on the 22nd (Fri): identify plant and animal life at Wildlife Areas, head outdoors with Aragusuku Beach, then take in the views from Kurima Bridge, then get outside with Yonaha Maehama Beach, and finally take in the views from Irabu Ohashi. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: paddle through the water with a kayaking and canoeing tour, kick back and relax at Toguchi no Hama, step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island, then snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge, and finally explore the gorgeous colors at Yabiji.

You can do a combination of bus and flight from Takachiho-cho to Miyakojima in 7 hours. Another option is to fly. Traveling from Takachiho-cho in May, you can expect nighttime temperatures to be a bit warmer in Miyakojima, with lows of 27°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 23rd (Sat) early enough to catch the ferry to Iriomote-jima.

Taketomicho Iriomote-Jima stands as the second largest island in Okinawa.
Kick off your visit on the 24th (Sun): step off the mainland to explore Barasu Island and then get interesting insight from Tours. On the 25th (Mon), you'll have a packed day of sightseeing: take in the dramatic scenery at Kanpiree Waterfall, then admire the sheer force of Pinaisara Falls, then get outside with Hoshisuna Beach, and finally find your balance on the water with some of the best stand-up paddleboarding in the area.

Ride a ferry from Miyakojima to Iriomote-jima in 4 hours. May in Iriomote-jima sees daily highs of 34°C and lows of 28°C at night. Cap off your sightseeing on the 25th (Mon) early enough to catch the ferry to Ishigaki.

Ishigaki

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Get in touch with nature at Kayaking & Canoeing and Yonehara Beach. There's much more to do: see some colorful creatures with a scuba or snorkeling tour, take a leisurely stroll along Nishi Pier, walk around Kabira Park, and take in panoramic vistas at Tamatorizaki Observatory.

You can ride a ferry from Iriomote-jima to Ishigaki in an hour. In May in Ishigaki, expect temperatures between 34°C during the day and 28°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing by early afternoon on the 28th (Thu) to allow enough time to travel back home.
