Capital of the Inca Empire for three centuries, World Heritage-listed Cusco is now a major tourist destination, drawing nearly 2 million annual tourists with its well-preserved colonial architecture and proximity to Machu Picchu.
Get in touch with nature at River Rafting & Tubing and Santuario Animal de Cochahuasi. Sacred Valley of the Incas and Horseback Riding Tours are good opportunities to explore the local culture. Step out of Cusco with an excursion to Iglesia de Urubamba in Urubamba--about 48 minutes away. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 6 hours traveling from Amsterdam to Cusco. Traveling from Amsterdam in February, expect nights in Cusco to be somewhat warmer, around 9°C, while days are much hotter, around 23°C.
