Ranking as the most popular ski resort in Hokkaido, mountaintop Niseko-cho boasts great slopes and surprisingly vibrant nightlife.
Start off your visit on the 30th (Sat): get outside with Niseko Annupuri International Ski Area, then hit the slopes at Niseko Village Ski Resort, then tee off at Rusutsu Resort, and finally get outside with Hokkaido Backcountry Club. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the next day: look for all kinds of wild species at Kagaminuma, then identify plant and animal life at Shinsennuma, and then fly down the slopes at Niseko Mountain Resort Grand Hirafu Ski Place.

Perhaps the island's best-known hot spring resort, Noboribetsu has a long history of tourism.
On the 2nd (Mon), witness a stunning natural landmark at Oyunumagawa Natural Footbath, then take in the dramatic natural features at Jigokudani, and then try out the rides at Noboribetsu Date Historic Village. On the next day, meet the residents at Noboribetsu Marine Park Nixe, get to know the resident critters at Noboribetsu Bear Park, then get impressive views of Showashinzan, and finally explore the activities along Lake Toya.

Start off your visit on the 4th (Wed): take in the dramatic scenery at Oshin Koshin Falls, enjoy the sand and surf at Shiretoko Beach, explore the striking landscape of Shiretoko Nature Center, then explore the activities along Shiretoko Goko Lake, then look for all kinds of wild species at Shiretoko Peninsula, and finally enjoy breathtaking views from Yuhidai. Traveling by combination of flight and taxi from Noboribetsu to Shari-cho takes 4.5 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a train. Traveling from Noboribetsu in December, plan for little chillier nights in Shari-cho, with lows around -5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 5th (Thu) so you can go by car to Asahikawa.

Drive from Shari-cho to Asahikawa in 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of car and bus; or do a combination of taxi, flight, and train. When traveling from Shari-cho in December, plan for slightly colder days in Asahikawa, with highs around -2°C, while nights are about the same with lows around -5°C. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 8th (Sun) so you can catch the train to Sapporo.
