A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Imugya Marine Garden and Toguchi no Hama. There's lots more to do: kick back and relax at Aragusuku Beach, head outdoors with Sunayama Beach, step off the mainland to explore Irabu-jima Island, and snap pictures at Ikema Ohashi Bridge.
