Hakone-machi is known for museums, nature, and historic sites. Your plan includes some of its best attractions: admire the masterpieces at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, steep yourself in history at Hakone Shrine / Kuzuryu Shrine Singu, get engrossed in the history at Hakone Sekisho and Hakone Sekisho Museum, and indulge in Japan's hot spring tradition at Hakone Kowakien Yunessun.

Do a combination of train and bus from Tokyo to Hakone-machi in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive. When traveling from Tokyo in April, plan for a bit cooler days and about the same nights in Hakone-machi: temperatures range from 15°C by day to 13°C at night. Finish up your sightseeing early on the 9th (Thu) so you can travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
On the 10th (Fri), steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, make a trip to Nijo Castle, admire nature's wide array of creatures at Monkey Park Iwatayama, then steep yourself in history at Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and finally wander the streets of Gion.

Getting from Hakone-machi to Kyoto by combination of bus and train takes about 4 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of bus, train, and flight. While traveling from Hakone-machi, expect a bit warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 22°C to lows of 11°C. You will have some time to spend on the 11th (Sat) before leaving for Osaka.

Pilgrims and aviators come to Narita, a town known during the Edo period for its temple, and now known primarily for its airport.
On the 18th (Sat), don't miss a visit to Naritasan Omote Sando, then contemplate the long history of Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Katori Jingu Shrine. On your second day here, get curious at Museum of Aeronautical Sciences, enjoy breathtaking views from Narita International Airport Terminal 1, and then stroll around Sakura no yama Park.
