Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Your list of things to see and do now includes Ghibli Museum Mitaka, Robot Restaurant, Hedgehog Cafe HARRY, Harajuku, and other attractions. Kids will appreciate attractions like Shinjuku Gyoen National Garden and Tokyo Disneyland. Brisbane, Australia to Tokyo is an approximately 13.5-hour flight. You can also do a combination of bus and flight. Due to the time zone difference, you'll gain 1 hour traveling from Brisbane to Tokyo. Traveling from Brisbane in April, expect Tokyo to be slightly colder, temps between 22°C and 12°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 7th (Tue) early enough to travel to Hakone-machi.

Sitting at the foot of Mount Fuji, Hakone-machi has become a popular retreat from Tokyo for locals and tourists alike.
Bring the kids along to Hakone Kowakien Yunessun and Sengokuhara. There's lots more to do: explore the world behind art at The Hakone Open-Air Museum, get engrossed in the history at Hakone Sekisho and Hakone Sekisho Museum, trek along Hakone Stone‐paved Road, and get great views at Hakone Ropeway.

Take a train from Tokyo to Hakone-machi in 2 hours. Alternatively, you can drive; or take a bus. When traveling from Tokyo in April, plan for a bit cooler days in Hakone-machi, with highs around 15°C, while nights are about the same with lows around 13°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 9th (Thu) to allow time to travel to Kyoto.

The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 10th (Fri): contemplate the long history of Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, step into the grandiose world of Nijo Castle, then learn about wildlife with up-close encounters at Monkey Park Iwatayama, then contemplate the long history of Kiyomizu-dera Temple, and finally take a stroll through Gion.

Getting from Hakone-machi to Kyoto by train takes about 4 hours. Other options: drive; or do a combination of flight and train. While traveling from Hakone-machi, expect somewhat warmer days and about the same nights in Kyoto, ranging from highs of 22°C to lows of 11°C. On the 11th (Sat), you'll have the morning to explore before heading off to Osaka.

Proud of their hometown's distinct culture and dialect, many natives of Osaka describe their city as "Japan's anti-capital." An antidote to Tokyo's hectic energy, Osaka marches to the beat of its own drum, serving as the country's longtime commercial and industrial hub.
You've now added Todaiji Temple Cultural Center to your itinerary. Kids will enjoy Universal Studios Japan and Osaka Aquarium Kaiyukan. Change things up with these side-trips from Osaka: Nara (Nigatsu-do Temple, Nara Park, & more) and Koya-cho (Koyasan Okunoin & Mt. Koya). There's still lots to do: explore the historical opulence of Osaka Castle, make a trip to Shinsaibashi-suji Shopping Street, and shop like a local with Dotonbori.

Osaka is very close to Kyoto. In April in Osaka, expect temperatures between 23°C during the day and 12°C at night. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 18th (Sat) to allow time to travel to Narita.

Pilgrims and aviators come to Narita, a town known during the Edo period for its temple, and now known primarily for its airport.
Start off your visit on the 18th (Sat): steep yourself in history at Naritasan Omote Sando, steep yourself in history at Naritasan Shinsho-ji Temple, and then contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Katori Jingu Shrine. On your second day here, get curious at Museum of Aeronautical Sciences, enjoy breathtaking views from Narita International Airport Terminal 1, and then stroll around Sakura no yama Park.

You can do a combination of flight and train from Osaka to Narita in 3.5 hours. Alternatively, you can take a train; or drive.
