The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Start off your visit on the 22nd (Sun): take in the spiritual surroundings of Toji, steep yourself in history at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and then take in the spiritual surroundings of Kiyomizu-dera Temple. Here are some ideas for day two: admire the landmark architecture of Ninna-ji Temple, then get the lay of the land with Walking tours, and then take in nature's colorful creations at Nanzen-ji Temple.

Athens, Greece to Kyoto is an approximately 19.5- hour flight. You can also do a combination of flight and train; or do a combination of flight, bus, and train. Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 7 hours traveling from Athens to Kyoto. Plan for little chillier temperatures traveling from Athens in March, with highs in Kyoto at 16°C and lows at 5°C. Cap off your sightseeing on the 24th (Tue) early enough to catch the train to Tokyo.

Getting from Kyoto to Tokyo by train takes about 2.5 hours. Other options: fly; or drive. In March, plan for daily highs up to 17°C, and evening lows to 7°C. Finish your sightseeing early on the 28th (Sat) to allow enough time to travel to Iriomote-jima.

Taketomicho Iriomote-Jima stands as the second largest island in Okinawa.

Traveling by combination of flight and ferry from Tokyo to Iriomote-jima takes 8.5 hours. While traveling from Tokyo, expect somewhat warmer days and much warmer nights in Iriomote-jima, ranging from highs of 26°C to lows of 21°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Tue) to allow time to ride a ferry to Ishigaki.
