A city jurisdiction formed after the merger of several towns in 2005, Miyakojima spans six linked-up islands.
Get in touch with nature at Yonaha Maehama Beach and Hora Gyoko no Hama Beach. You'll get in some beach time at Sunayama Beach and Nagamahama Beach Coast. It doesn't end there: enjoy the sand and surf at Aragusuku Beach and stroll through Tomori Imugya Beach.

Ishigaki, the most populous island in the chain, features the country's southernmost city and acts as a transport hub for exploring the landmasses that surround.
Visiting Yonehara Beach and Kabira Bay will get you outdoors. You'll enjoy a bit of beach vacationing at Kondoi Beach and Fusaki Beach. The village of Zamami-son in the western Kerama Islands spans four of the islands in the group, one of which remains uninhabited.

On the 17th (Thu), see the interesting displays at Hiroshima Peace Memorial Museum, take an in-depth tour of Hiroshima National Peace Memorial Hall for the Atomic Bomb Victims, and then contemplate the long history of Hiroshima Peace Memorial Park. On your second day here, enjoy the sand and surf at Mikasahama Beach, then step off the mainland to explore Miyajima, then steep yourself in history at Itsukushima Shrine Torii, and finally contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Itsukushima Shrine.

Your inner history buff will appreciate Nijo Castle and Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine. Get a sense of the local culture at Gion and Nara Park. Change things up with these side-trips from Kyoto: Nara (Kasuga Grand Shrine & Todai-ji Temple) and Osaka (Dotonbori & Osaka Castle).
