Gongju

Gongju, also spelt Kongju, is a city in South Chungcheong province, South Korea.HistoryGongju was formerly named Ungjin and was the capital of Baekje from AD 475 to 538. On the 11th (Mon), contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Magoksa Temple, steep yourself in history at Songsan-ri Tombs and Royal Tomb of King Muryeong, and then steep yourself in history at Gongsanseong. Get ready for a full day of sightseeing on the 12th (Tue): examine the collection at Gongju National Museum, then see the interesting displays at Buyeo National Museum, and then steep yourself in history at Nakhwaam Rock.

The capital of the country's northernmost province, the city of Chuncheon acts a gateway to the wilder sights of the rural region.

Gyeongju

One of the most popular tourist destinations in the Republic of Korea, Gyeongju combines a rich cultural heritage with mountain and coastal scenery.
On the 25th (Mon), look for all kinds of wild species at Gyeongju Bird Park, then take in the spiritual surroundings of Bulguksa Temple, then pause for some photo ops at Seokguram, and finally appreciate the extensive heritage of Tongiljeon. On the next day, examine the collection at Ulsan Daegok Museum, explore the activities along Donggung Palace and Wolji Pond, and then see the interesting displays at Gyeongju National Museum.

Traveling by car from Sokcho to Gyeongju takes 4 hours. Alternatively, you can do a combination of bus and train; or take a bus. Busan

Expect somewhat warmer weather when traveling from Gyeongju in January: highs in Busan hover around 7°C, while lows dip to -3°C.
