Tokyo holds the status of most populous metropolitan area in the world--a fact you'll find tangible as you walk the bustling streets and explore its diverse neighborhoods and cultures.
Your inner history buff will appreciate Sensō-ji and Tokyo National Museum. Do some cultural sightseeing at Odaiba and Takeshita Street. Change things up with a short trip to Ghibli Museum Mitaka in Mitaka (about 44 minutes away). There's much more to do: examine the collection at Edo-Tokyo Museum, admire the landmark architecture of Tokyo Tower, engage your brain at National Museum of Emerging Science and Innovation Miraikan, and admire the masterpieces at Suntory Museum of Art.

Due to the time zone difference, you'll lose 15 hours traveling from Dallas to Tokyo. The national capital for over a thousand years, Kyoto retains much of the charm of old Japan, boasting numerous temples and shrines that seem completely untouched by the modern world.
Head to Dotonbori and Nishiki Marketfor plenty of shopping. Do some cultural sightseeing at Gion and Nara Park. Explore Kyoto's surroundings by going to Osaka Castle (in Osaka), Jindoji Temple (in Kizugawa) and Nara (Todai-ji Temple & Todaiji Temple Cultural Center). There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Kiyomizu-dera Temple, see the interesting displays at Kyoto Museum of Traditional Crafts Fureaikan, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Fushimi Inari-taisha Shrine, and steep yourself in history at Heian Shrine.
