Though a fairly large city in its own right, Saitama has become known primarily for its proximity to the capital, Tokyo.
Get a sense of the local culture at Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore and Ibaraki Nature Museum. The Railway Museum and Kikkoman Soy Sauce Museum will appeal to museum buffs. Change things up with these side-trips from Saitama: Musashino Place (in Musashino), Ghibli Museum Mitaka (in Mitaka) and Seiryu-ji Fudoin Temple (in Wako). The adventure continues: contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Hikawa Shrine, view the masterpieces at Kasama Kirara Museum, appreciate the history behind Yokaren Peace Memorial Musuem, and indulge your thirst for a good beer at Asahi Brewery Ibaraki.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major airports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Hyakuri Airport. In July, daily temperatures in Saitama can reach 36°C, while at night they dip to 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
