Though a fairly large city in its own right, Saitama has become known primarily for its proximity to the capital, Tokyo.
Museum-lovers will get to explore Ghibli Museum Mitaka and Saitama Prefectural Museum of History and Folklore. Get some cultural insight at Omiya Bonsai Art Museum, Saitama and The Railway Museum. Venture out of the city with trips to RyuQkan (in Kasukabe), Seiryu-ji Fudoin Temple (in Wako) and Musashino Place (in Musashino). There's much more to do: buy something for everyone on your list at Cocoon City, take in the spiritual surroundings of Chichibu Fudasho Meguri, sample the tasty concoctions at Asahi Brewery Ibaraki, and stop by Omiya Bonsai Village.

If you are flying in from Australia, the closest major aiports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Hyakuri Airport. In July, daytime highs in Saitama are 36°C, while nighttime lows are 27°C. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 31st (Sat) early enough to travel back home.
