Not too far from the capital, Ito has developed a reputation as a resort town, with a fair portion of its area lying within a national park.
You've now added Sugikuni Shoten to your itinerary. Bring the kids along to Mount Omuro and Omuro Mountain Lift. Explore the numerous day-trip ideas around Ito: Lake Kawaguchi (in Fujikawaguchiko-machi), Kanagawa Prefectural Museum of Natural History (in Odawara) and Hakone-machi (Lake Ashi (Ashinoko) & The Hakone Open-Air Museum). There's still lots to do: don't miss a visit to Mount Fuji, take in the spiritual surroundings of Shogetsu-in, relax in the rural setting at Yes! Strawberry, and get to know the resident critters at Izu Shaboten Zoo.

To see maps, other places to visit, reviews, and tourist information, refer to the Ito travel route planning website .

If you are flying in from United States, the closest major airports are Tokyo Haneda International Airport, Narita International Airport and Mt. Fuji Shizuoka Airport. Expect a daytime high around 56°F in March, and nighttime lows around 50°F. Wrap up your sightseeing on the 11th (Wed) to allow time to travel back home.
