Light of America
High in the Andean foothills, Quito remains one of the world's most photogenic capital cities, featuring two dramatic mountain ranges as its backdrop.Eschew the tourist crowds and head to Termas de Papallacta and Cotopaxi National Park. Get some cultural insight at Fundacion Iglesia de la Compania and Museo Casa del Alabado. Change things up with a short trip to Paz de las Aves Bird Refuge in Mindo (about 1h 40 min away). There's still lots to do: stop by Mercado Artesanal La Mariscal, admire the masterpieces at Centro Cultural Metropolitano, contemplate in the serene atmosphere at Santo Domingo Church, and admire the landmark architecture of Catedral Metropolitana de Quito.
