Musee Mecanique, San Francisco

4.5
Experience the entertainment of the past at Musee Mecanique, while interacting with Ed Zelinsky’s personal collection of 20th-century penny arcade games, music boxes, photo booths, and other coin-operated wonders. The museum pays homage to this impressive assortment that he began at the age of 11 and continued to add to throughout his life. Now grown to hundreds of antique machines, it is one of the largest of its type in the world. Although entrance is free, be sure to bring your spare change so you can try your luck out on some of the games. • Cheap and cheerful. Very old games along with some great old arcade games. Good way to spend an hour if in the wharf area.  more »
  • I found the games and displays a bit gimmicky and maybe even a little racist, like the ones depicting Native American tribes.  more »

  • Fun and unique place to visit! It has hundreds of old circus machines, pinball, ad arcade games. A fun glimpse into the past, all the machines are operational and take 1 - 4 quarters. A cheap and fin way to spend an afternoon! Did I mention it was fun?
  • Very cool arcade with tons of interesting old games. Was a joy to randomly find this. They actually had my favorite arcade game of all time, a Star Wars X Wing pilot game where you blast tie fighters and do the Death Star canyon run. Hadn't played that since I was a little kid on the boardwalk in the summer so that was awesome to find.
