Cu Chi Tunnels, Ho Chi Minh City

Spreading below Ho Chi Minh City, Cu Chi Tunnels connect to a broader network of tunnels that served the Viet Cong during the war against the United States. North Vietnamese fighters used the dark, insect- and disease-infested tunnels to avoid aerial attacks, hide, move troops and supplies, plan battles, and launch attacks. After the U.S. realized the importance of the tunnels to Viet Cong military strategy, it led a series of campaigns to infiltrate, bomb, and destroy them, a feat that proved largely unsuccessful. Numerous tour operators run visits to the tunnels; prepare for cramped spaces. • An amazing and poignant place to visit. Our guide Mr Duc was excellent and made the history of the area come alive  more »
  • I was charged for 2 people. Company refused to refund me, because I had booked on the same day as the tour. Very disappointing waste of USD30. The tour itself was good. It's a long bus trip. Tour.....  more »

  • This place is definitely not close to Ho Chi Minh City, and you probably should (if not MUST) get a tour guide to really get an understanding of the area. This place is a remnant of the Vietnamese war, where the Vietcong used to stay when hiding from the American soldiers. The tunnel itself is staggering in scale, when you realize that it is several levels underneath the ground, and ingenious when you find out that it wasn't made with special tools. It is definitely cramped, and if you're short and lean, congratulations, it's your time to shine, since you probably will enjoy the experience better than someone who has the opposite descriptors. They have a rather cheap souvenir shop as well, where you can even purchase car tire sandals that are still in use by the Vietnamese armies today.
  • Was an awesome experience to learn about the Vietnam war and witness first hand what life was like during these times. There were many tunnels you were able to enter (I just did one because they’re pretty scary) and you even get to try some tapioca! Definitely recommend!
